Organizing Django Girls workshop was my first experience in organizing an event of such size and activities. It was a wonderful experience for me and for the participants as well. Django Girls Eket was the first Django Girls workshop in the city of Eket, Akwa Ibom State and the turn up was amazing.

I applied for support but the support I got was enough to carter for 30 participants while my original plan was to train 60 participants in the workshop. Nevertheless, we didn’t allow money to be a limitation because we finally accommodated 50 participants with the help of some local sponsors and individual fund the workshop came through.

I had always looked for an opportunity where I can make a positive impact in the lives of others especially young ladies and Django Girls came right on time, it gave me the opportunity to do that, as most of the participants were excited about what they have learnt and there was the yearning for more as most of the participants didn’t want to go home even after the workshop.

Organizing the workshop was a bit challenging financially because it was difficult getting local sponsors to support us. I appreciate our international sponsors and the few local sponsors who latter supported us, if not for them the workshop wouldn’t have been possible.

It was challenging also because I was combining both office work and doing publicity for Django Girls Workshop but not without the support of my co-organizer Obi Justin, who also assisted in the design of the fliers, banners and some run around to make sure the workshop was successful. I really appreciate his effort.

Special thanks go to our sponsors, Github community, and Python Software Foundation, KodeHauz, MediaMall, Munchy Scrunchy and Clemct water. Your support is highly appreciated as it means a lot to us.

Our awesome coaches are not left out especially those that came from outside Akwa Ibom State, it wasn’t easy but you came, and we love you for that. They did a wonderful job in making sure the learners are carried along. Thanks once again to Jerome Becky, Emmanuel Obot, Ese-Oghene Emuraye, Fabian Uzukwu, Finbarr Ekomobong, Gabriel Alexander Stephen,  Nathaniel John, Ufere Peace, Ugochi, Princewill and Obi Justin and thanks to my co-organizer who was also part of the coach and am not left out thanks to myself (Agatevure Glory) for organizing the workshop.

I look forward to doing more with the support of the coaches and sponsors in few months to come.

I LOVE DJANGO GIRLS!
