Inspiring ladies to fall in love with programming was indeed our experience in Django Girls Plateau Workshop #3. The workshop like the previous one was for three days; it started on the 29th, 30th and ended on the 31st of March, 2018. The workshop was project-based, the objective was to introduce these ladies (and the few guys we had) to programming and help them build their first blog.
The venue was Community and social development agency (former tax academy) main hall. We had two sessions each day and a break for lunch.
The first day began with the registration of attendees followed by python installation, introduction to command prompt and introduction to python. The second session after the break we went more into teaching python.
On the second Day session one, we took off with the installation of Django and introduced the framework to the attendees. At the second session, we began tutorial of HTML and CSS, we ended the session with the attendees signing up python anywhere accounts.
The third day in the first session, we continue Django tutorial, downloaded and the attendees downloaded and installed ‘git’ on their systems. They signed up for Github accounts. We resumed the second session with the deployment of the blogs they started in the first session. That day was the most exciting day of all three days. The excitement and joy on the faces of our attendees were priceless and very fulfilling. We successfully deployed 10 blogs that day, below are some of the blogs deployed.

We had in total 62 attendees’ 10 of which were male and the rest female. 98 percent of them were total beginners and the rest intermediate HTML and CSS and Python but total beginners in Django. The youngest attendee was 14 years and the oldest 34 years old. We had two Django Girls Plateau Alumni, who joined us to coach in this workshop, I was super proud of them.

I like to thank Django Girls for the opportunity to impact these ladies, PSF and Github for their amazing support. I want to appreciate the Plateau State Government for providing us with a wonderful hall and laptops for the attendees who didn’t have any. nHub Nigeria released some of the developers to us, we appreciate you. Hamaz Communications, Crescita, KtFm Jos, JayFm Jos and Grant Elvis Galleria, thank you for all support, for helping us making this workshop a great. My amazing Coaches who stayed with us even though it was Easter Holiday, I LOVE YOU ALL!

Finally, I thank God for preserving my husband and me from a fatal motor incident that would have claimed our lives just before this workshop and for strengthening us all through the preparation of the workshop.
