Your Django Story: Caroline Ochieng

Programming isn’t just for geeks!

My name is Caroline Ochieng. I am twenty-three years old. I live in Nairobi, Kenya. I am currently doing freelance IT-support jobs. I am a Django Girls alumni.  Attending the Django Girls workshop positively impacted my life. The workshop probed further interest in me in the tech field and I signed up for a tech-related course; which I am currently doing to further my knowledge in the field. I still learn a bit of programming on my own when I am free.

Before attending the workshop, I had always been a tech-enthusiast but I never saw myself ever programming. I always left it for the geeks; at least they had done it for way too long and were naturals, I thought. The workshop changed my outlook, I meet people who were good in programming yet hadn’t spent all their lives doing it.

The learning was great. Had fun in the process and networked a lot (I still keep contact with a few friends that I met there). Best part, two months ago, I was confident enough to bid a proposal for a website creation project within my local residence. I managed to get the job and I am sure there will be more such opportunities in the future, thanks to Django Girls!

Django Girls is a non-profit that teaches programming to women all around the world. Want to help us? Support us!
