My Django Girls Abuja Experience

This blog post was written by Cynthia J. Thank you, Cynthia :)

Hi,

I am deeply grateful to share this piece of my adventure at the Django Girls Workshop. I can’t stop thanking God for the impact the workshop had on me. The tutorials, sumptuous meals, mingling with fellow participants/like minds in the industry and the after party were so on point. In one word, I describe the workshop as “Wow!” I was amazed how the much talked about Software programming was so easy and straight forward. I became curious. I conquered my fears and restrictions on programming. Now, I can proudly say I am a moving train on the course. It was a rare platform.

Looking back, I always felt blurred in there and dwelt on the thought of the bridges to cross in order to build my career until I stumbled on the advert for the workshop. A great opportunity that was worthwhile.  I took the risk, embarked on the long journey to Abuja, pounced on the opportunity and chased it like wide fire, worked on my drive for coding, grabbed it. Yippee! I am a programmer and blogger in the making. No longer hiding in my restrictions, ignorance, fear, and unanswered questions. Scaled through it in just two days. I am a revolution who is approved and has popped open one of my hidden gifts for the world to see, a dream come true.

The Coaches/Mentors were up to the task, they made it happen! They took the pains to bring to our understanding the nitty-gritty. I found inspiration and it came at the speed of light. With little or no prior knowledge at all in programming or website development, I was able to apply HTML, CSS, Python & Django and created my blog! Thank You, Coaches!

It so time to explode and leave my marks and footprint and crash into excellence in the technology world. Time to give back to the society what I learnt and drive that passion into other girls in my community.

I encourage everyone to watch out for the next Django Girls workshop and delve into this mind blowing workshop. In fact, I will be a coach for the Django Girls workshop holding in February for Internally Displaced Persons now living in Lagos, Nigeria!

Best
